Tip for Decorating Envelopes - Quick & Easy!

I have a quick tip to share with you about envelopes.  A beautifully decorated envelope gives the recipient a little hint that there's something very special inside it.  I'm sure you've heard it's important to make a good first impression!  Stamping the outside is nice, but I don't always have time to do that.  Here's what I do instead...

The Petal Pair embossing folder makes an elegant envelope and you can make it in the time it takes to crank it through the Big Shot!

It's a set of 2 embossing folders sized smaller than the standard sized folders - perfect for this application.

The envelope flap fits perfectly inside the folder.  (Open the envelope - only the flap goes inside the folder.)

Place the envelope and folder between 2 clear plates and crank it through the Big Shot.  Even if your plates are well-used, like mine, they will make a perfect impression.

The impressions create a rough surface on the envelope adhesive, so you will need to use a strip of Tear & Tape to seal it.  This is true anytime you are adhering embossed cardstock to a project - always use a strong, double-sided adhesive tape.

  5. Thank you for sharing this. Is there a way to use other embossing folders on the flap?

    1. Yes! I would encourage you to experiment with any of the standard embossing folders. Simply slip the envelope flap inside the folder and run it through the Big Shot as you normally would. The 3D dynamic folders would not work for this technique - the impressions are so deep that the envelope would tear. Have fun!

  9. I try to use a portion of whichever embossing folder I've used on the card itself on the envelope or flap. Some work more easily than others!

  13. There's a fun set like these with birthday, congratulations, etc. on them! Been doing this for some time now and love the effect... Never occurred to me to use other designs...for some reason..so thanks the inspiration! Note: I do buy only envelopes with the square flap so I can use this technique.

  14. It works terrifically for hand deliveries, but I have ad the experience that they will often get spit out of the mail sorters and can take a long time to get to the recipient. :(

  15. I have some small folders that are great on flaps. The one that reads "Congratulations" is one of my faves!
