Crafting With You - Quilt Cards

Let me begin by saying I Don't Sew. Not a stitch. So it's kind of funny that I've become obsessed with making quilt cards, but that's how it is.

I've made a dozen of these cards so far and I'm not done yet. They are a little tedious, but totally addictive! I love going through all of my designer papers and choosing colors & patterns to mix together.

Each card starts with at least two 1-1/2" squares of designer paper. Each square gets cut into 8 triangles-like this:

#1 - Line up the squares on the cutting track of your paper trimmer to make the first cut. I hold them in place with Post-It Note Tape. Photo #2 shows the squares after the first cut.

Continue cutting each triangle as shown in photo #3. Repeat until you have 8 triangles (photo #4).

Assembly:

Each square is assembled on a 1-1/2" square of Basic White cardstock. Attach 4 triangles in the pattern shown, using a little liquid glue.

To make this design, you will make 4 identical 1-1/2" squares as shown in the tutorial. Cut a 3" square of Basic White cardstock and adhere the 4 squares to it with the edges butted together.

For this star design, you'll adhere one completed square to the center of the 3" square of Basic White and arrange 8 more triangles around the center square. The magic happens when you emboss it! I love this embossing folder, it adds so much texture to this project.

The layer behind the quilt square is a 3-1/4" square in a coordinating color of your choice. The white layer behind that is a 3-3/4" square, also embossed. The last layer is a 4" square in a coordinating color.

The sewing machine is stamped in Gray Granite, one of my favorite neutral colors. The strip of fabric in the machine is 1/2" wide, angled on both ends.

This one is decorated a little differently with the basket of threads and scissors. These are all included in the Crafting With You dies.

Introducing...Orchid Oasis!

We have five brand-new colors about to debut in my Stampin' Up! world on May 3. Here's a little sneak peek at one of them - Orchid Oasis!

I bought this beautiful watercolor at a craft show recently. The artist, Caren Gagne, had mounted it on an ivory card base. I fell in love with her artwork, but I thought I could make it even better by changing it to a different card base. I wish I had taken a photo of how it looked originally to illustrate what a difference the Orchid Oasis cardstock made. Caren's artwork absolutely pops on this color!

For the inside I used images from an older set called Waterfront and stamped them in Orchid Oasis (stamped off once) and Pumpkin Pie. The sailboat was stamped in black & die-cut. After gluing it in place, I used Blender Pens with Orchid Oasis & Pumpkin Pie to color the white areas on the die-cut and make it blend nicely into the background.

Orchid Oasis will be available to purchase on May 3, along with 4 other fabulous new colors - Sweet Sorbet, Parakeet Party, Tahitian Tide & Starry Sky!

Welcome Spring

I've been neglecting my blog for weeks, but finally I'm able to start sharing with you again!

What better way to start than this cheerful spring card - I'm just delighted with the images in this stamp set. I've used this as an Easter card, get well card and friendship just by changing the sentiments on the inside. The colors I've used are Daffodil Delight, Misty Moonlight and Pear Pizzazz.

The design behind the boots was done with a mask and blending brush. Love this technique, it's like magic when you lift the mask and see the design! It's also easy and cost-effective, as the masks and brushes can be used over and over.

Pro Tip:

Be sure to secure the cardstock to your work surface AND secure the mask on top of that so nothing shifts. I like to use Post-It tape for this.

This is a great sketch to use up small bits of designer papers. I made a dozen of these cards and each one had a different piece of Daffodil Delight designer paper in the background.

Fun Fold Pretty Pumpkin Card

Hi friends,

Happy Harvest! Here's a fun fold card for Fall using the Pretty Pumpkins Bundle and Blackberry Beauty Designer Paper.

This was a new fold for me, and I think it's so pretty with this designer paper. The pumpkins and leaves are embossed with Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder on Very Vanilla cardstock. I stamped the sentiment in Blackberry Bliss ink and fussy-cut it.

The card base is made from Cinnamon Cider, a gorgeous Fall color.

Here are the measurements for this fold. It's simple to make, just be sure to measure carefully. If your measurements aren't precise, the angles may not match perfectly between the designer paper and the card base. If that happens no worries, you'll just need to make a small adjustment using your paper trimmer.

The belly band that keeps this card closed is Blackberry Bliss cardstock, 1-1/2" x 9-1/4". You can overlap the seam on the back of the card, or if you plan carefully you can overlap it on the front under the tall pumpkin where it will be completely hidden.
