My Favorite Colors for Spring

Hi Friends,

Spring has finally arrived.  After the long, gray days of winter I'm in the mood for bright, cheerful colors!  Our Ramblin' Stamper team card swap for April was a color challenge - we used Lemon-Lime Twist, Pool Party & Bermuda Bay, my all-time favorite colors.

Painted Harvest & So Many Shells are the stamp sets.  The stamped panel measures 3" x 4-1/4".  The Pool Party mat behind it is 1/4" larger, 3-1/4" x 4-1/2".

I made the stamped panel smaller than normal so I could feature the beautiful embossed panel behind it.  The Basket Weave Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (whew-that's a mouthful!) was a Sale-a-Bration reward item that's carrying over to the new catalog coming on June 1!  You'll want to add this one to your wishlist.

I made several of these, some of them with the Petal Burst Embossing Folder.  Which is your favorite?

TIP:  When using any of the Dynamic Embossing Folders, spritz your cardstock lightly with water before placing it in the folder.  All that's needed is a light mist.  These folders create such a deep, textured impression that your cardstock may show some cracking if you skip this step.  Softening the fibers in the cardstock will allow it to bend and stretch without any cracking.

TIP #2:  When adhering anything to a piece of embossed cardstock, always use a strong double-sided tape like Tear & Tape.  Snail will not hold these textured pieces together very well - the texture doesn't provide enough surface area for Snail to grip.  There's nothing worse than creating a beautiful card only to have it fall apart when the recipient opens it!

One More Look at Watercolor Wings

Hello, friends!

The retirement list of Stampin' Up products is out and I'm feeling all sentimental about my favorites that are retiring.  From now until May 31, I'll try to share favorite stamps, papers and embellishments that deserve one last look before they're gone!  Here's my offering for today to tempt you...

The stamp sets are Watercolor Wings & One Big Meaning.  I've stamped the butterfly in Pink Pirouette & Sweet Sugarplum.  Both of those colors plus the stamp sets and matching Bold Butterfly framelits are on the retirement list!  Ouch...

A little bit about how I stamped the butterfly...on a piece of Whisper White cardstock, I stamped the first layer in Pink Pirouette.  Then I stamped the second layer in Sweet Sugarplum.  I cut it out with the Bold Butterfly framelits BEFORE stamping the body in Basic Gray.  Trust me, this is the best way to get proper placement on the body.  Unless, of course, you have a Stamparatus, then lining up things like this is a breeze!

Take a piece of Silver Metallic Thread and wrap it around the palm of your hand about 5 times - slide it off and twist it in the middle (it will look sort of like a figure 8).  Lay it on top of your butterfly, cover it with a smaller butterfly that you've cut from vellum, and place a staple right down the center of the body to anchor it all together.  I used my trusty Swingline desktop stapler for this step.  Lastly, give the edges of the wings a little "lift" by gently curling them around a pencil or the edge of your bone folder.

The card base is Pink Pirouette & the gray layer is Smoky Slate.  I used the dotty stamp from Waterfront for the background.  The grouping of 3 larger dots is included in Watercolor Wings, as is the faint little butterfly image you can see to the left of "thanks".

A few tips about Retirement Time...

The retirement list looks HUGE this year because it includes all of our ink pads...we are getting a new easy-opening stackable style case!  But seventeen colors are leaving us for good.  If you already own these colors, focus on making sure you have ink refills for them!  They are:

Always Artichoke
Chocolate Chip
Elegant Eggplant
Island Indigo
Marina Mist
Perfect Plum
Pink Pirouette
Rose Red
Soft Sky
Tangerine Tango
Tempting Turquoise
Wild Wasabi
Wisteria Wonder
Dapper Denim
Emerald Envy
Peekaboo Peach
Sweet Sugarplum

Secondly, all of the current bundles are on the list.  Some of the individual components will be available in the new catalog, but they will no longer be available in a bundle at 10% savings.  So check your wish list for bundles and save some dough now!

Lastly, due to high demand for retiring stamp sets, retiring stamp sets are guaranteed available until May 25; everything else is available only as long as supplies last.  So if you need to prioritize your purchases or place more than one order this month, concentrate on papers, dies & accessories and make your stamp purchases in May.

Whatever you choose, enjoy it and have fun with it!  Everyone has their own ideas and their own style of crafting.  I love giving the same materials to a group and seeing all the different ways they come up with to use them!

Bloomin' Hearth Thinlits & Clearance Rack Refresh

Hey Crafty Friends,

By now you've probably heard that we are counting down the days until the brand-new Stampin' Up catalog comes out.  Get your sticky notes & wish lists ready!  Before that happens, though, some things have got to go.  Old with the old, in with the new.  A lot of my old favorites are retiring with this catalog and I've been feeling sentimental, so I've been pulling some of them out this week to play with & share with you.

The Bloomin' Heart Thinlits are one of my all-time faves.  The heart is so beautiful and intricately detailed...I've used this for weddings, Valentines, engagement congrats, bridal shower invitations, thank-you's, you get the idea.  It's definitely a good value!  There is a matching stamp set too, but the thinlits stand alone just fine.

I love the simplicity of this design.  It doesn't get much easier than this - the base is made of Crumb Cake cardstock, the heart is die-cut from Very Vanilla and the sentiment is stamped in Early Espresso.  Finish it with a few pearls and a bow tied from Linen Thread and you're finished!  Simply elegant.

The Bloomin' Hearth Thinlits and the matching Bloomin' Love stamp set will be gone after May 31 (or sooner if supplies are exhausted).

Bird Banter

Hey Crafty Friends,

I've been working on honing my coloring skills with my new Stampin' Blends.  I have to admit, coloring has never been my favorite thing, but the beautiful images I've seen colored with alcohol markers are so inspiring that I'm determined to get better at it!  Bird Banter seems like a good set to practice with - the images have a lot of opportunity to blend different colors together, plus these birds are stinkin' cute!

I really like the way this turned out.  I started coloring with the lighter marker of each color, added a little shading with the darker one, then went back over it with the lighter marker to blend it all together.  The Color Lifter has turned out to be my best friend - anyplace where I felt it was too dark or I wasn't happy with the blend, I just went over it with this little baby and fixed it right up.

Even in the close-up it doesn't look too bad!

I added two 1/2" strips of designer paper to the inside to match the card front.  Everything I used is listed below with the exception of the black & white striped paper which was from a retired paper stack.  I have a confession to make...this birthday card is for a friend and even though I didn't forget his birthday, I'm mailing this a couple of days late just so I can use this cute sentiment!  Is that wrong? LOL

Here's my envelope decoration.  I think I'll be making a lot more of these cards to have on hand.  It was fun to see the images come to life with color and the sentiments all bring a smile to your face!
