Work of Art Thank You Cards

Hi Friends,

Just a quick share today of some more thank-you cards I made for the baby shower.  These go together really easily and you can feel so artistic mixing colors!

The stamp set is a retiring favorite I've told you about before...Work of Art.  I love it for simple cards like this and there's really nothing else in the catalog like it!  The "thank you" comes from One Big Meaning, which is also on the retiring list, but if you're like me you have lots of choices when it comes to "thank you" stamps.

You can make these in a rainbow of colors...so much fun to mix & match!

How I made the splatters...

Add a drop of ink to the inside of the lid of your same color stamp pad.  Using a water-filled Aqua Painter, swirl it around in the ink to fill the brush with ink.  Using a craft knife (or a pallet knife or butter knife, whatever you have), draw the bristles toward you and let the ink splatter onto the cardstock.  Less water on the brush will give you smaller splats - more water makes them larger.  As always with a new technique, practice on a piece of scrap paper until you are confident!  And do be sure to protect your work surface from errant splatters!

Just a gentle reminder...after Thursday some of these products are no longer available through Stampin' Up.  Click any of the links at the end of this post to purchase now!

I meet so many nice people stamping...

This week I received a surprise in the mail from one of my customers in Iowa.  This lovely lady sent me a beautiful cross-stitched bib for my baby granddaughter!  Stampers are the nicest, most thoughtful people.  Thank you, Jackie!

Caring For Your Ink Pads and My Top 5 Retiring Favorites

Hey Stampers,

Today let's talk about ink pads.  Specifically, how to re-ink them and keep them working like they did fresh out of the wrapper!

How do you know when it's time to re-ink?  You use them every day, and over time they start to dry out and lose the vivid hues they should have.  The trouble is, they fade so gradually that you may not notice - often it takes another stamping friend to point it out to you.  And of course, no one wants to criticize your beautiful artwork, so you still don't realize that your pads need to be re-inked.  If you find you are having to tap the pads onto your stamp multiple times to get good coverage, it's probably time.  Truthfully, if you have had an ink pad for longer than a year, even if you haven't used it very often, it's probably time.  Last month I used my Powder Pink pad with the Hardwood stamp 100 times to make baby shower favors.  Here's how it stamped when I started and when I finished:

Definitely time to re-ink.  Now that you know it's time, how do you do it?  Great question!  I start out with about 12 drops spread around the pad evenly.  On the current style foam pads, you'll want to take the back of a spoon and gently massage the ink down into the pad.  I keep a plastic spoon with my re-inkers just for this purpose.  You may need to repeat this 2-3 times to bring your pad back to it's original condition.  Just do a few test stamps after each re-inking - it's easy to add more ink but difficult to remove (but not impossible)!  If you're working with the older style cotton ink pads, it's not necessary to push the ink into the pad - it will naturally soak in.

Are you storing your ink pads properly?  They should always be stored flat with the label side up.  Stampin' Up ink pads are designed so that when the label side is up, the ink pad is upside-down in the case.  This keeps all of the ink close to the surface of the pad and ready to go.

Did you know?

There are name labels on the bottom of each ink pad in four different languages.  Simply peel off one of them and place it on the end of the case so you can instantly see the colors when they are stacked for storage.

I can't stress enough how important it is to have re-inkers for all of the ink pads you own.  So many stampers wait until they need them before they buy.  I was guilty of this when I first started stamping, too!  It's hard to buy something that you don't need at the moment when you've already spent a bundle.

But here's the thing:  You've already made the investment in a quality ink pad.  Don't let that go to waste because you can't rejuvenate it with fresh ink!  Stampin' Up is retiring 17 colors on May 31.  Please check your inventory now to see which of these ink pad colors you own and if you need the re-inker, do the smart thing!  Here are the retiring colors - simply click on the link to purchase the ones you need.  (Always Artichoke is already sold out but as of today the others should all still be available).

A Little Wild Thank You Cards

Hi friends,

Earlier this month we had a baby shower for my daughter-in-law and as part of her gift I'm making some thank-you cards for her.  Here's one of my favorites:

The sweet little image was colored with my Stampin' Blends markers - available again on June 1!  The Whisper White panel is 2-1/4" x 4", mounted on a 2-1/2" x 4" piece of Basic Gray cardstock.

This cute little elephant (along with a lion & a bear) is actually meant to be a tag.  I inked & stamped just the front half of the tag, die-cut it & trimmed it:

My little herd of elephants :)

Did you know?

If you have trouble getting your clear mount stamps to attach firmly to your acrylic blocks, the problem is most likely a dirty block.  Dust and fingerprints can keep them from sticking well.  By far the best solution I've found is to clean your blocks regularly with hand sanitizer.  I keep a bottle on my work table all the time for just this purpose.  Any brand will work...I like Bath & Body because it smells so nice as you clean!

These little guys were fun & easy to color with my Blends...

I changed up the colors a bit for variety...Soft Sky, Sweet Sugarplum & Pink Pirouette

My beautiful daughter-in-law...she's going to need a lot of thank-you cards!
