Bouquet Bunch for Global Design Project - #GDP137

Hi Friends,

How awesome are these colors?!  This week I'm playing along with the Global Design Project Colour Challenge.  Each week they post a new challenge and invite anyone to play along - the theme this week is color, and these are some of my faves!

I use Lemon Lime Twist & Pool Party together all the time.  Melon Mambo is not a color I would have chosen on my own to combine with those two, but I love it!

The timing of this challenge was perfect for me, as I was getting ready to design a card for my BFF's birthday and needed some inspiration.  I knew I wanted to create something special and I had this fold in mind but I wasn't sure of the theme or colors.  When I saw these colors together it all clicked for me!  I found a card on Pinterest created by Debbie Henderson using this fold and she called it the Triple Panel Standing Card.  It's so simple, yet interesting to look at and EASY to create!

Wow!  This card with the matching gift box was created with the Beautiful Bouquet Bundle.  I've had this for a while without ever inking it up.  I think I was intimidated by all of the different images and die-cut pieces.  Sometimes you just have to jump in and take the plunge!  Once I did, it was so much fun, almost like flower arranging (or at least what I imagine it would be like if I did that, lol)!

First things first - the card base is 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" (1/2 sheet of cardstock).  Score the long edge at 2", 3-1/8", 5-3/8" & 6-1/2".  The designer papers are 1-3/4" x 5-1/4" (cut 2) and 2" x 5-1/4" (cut 1 for the center panel).  Adhere the designer papers and fold the card mountain & valley style.

How did I choose the colors and design?  Remember, I only had 3 colors to work with.  That makes things so much easier than you might think!  I took all of the floral images from the stamp set and started stamping them on a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  I wasn't using Lemon Lime Twist for any of the flowers, so that left just 2 colors to work with.  The secret to making it look like more colors - stamp each image 2 or 3 times without re-inking in between.  In rubber stamp land this is called "stamping off".

After I had filled my Whisper White cardstock with stamped images, I went to the Big Shot and cut them all out, along with some stems and leaves from Lemon Lime Twist and a few extra elements from Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper.  The square shape that the bouquet is built on is cut using the Layering Squares Framelits.

I adhered the square to the card base before building the bouquet so that I could see exactly how the pieces would look and fit on the finished card.  Starting with the group of stems, I adhered each piece using Multipurpose Liquid Glue, arranging pieces and gluing each in place.  A few of the flowers are adhered with Mini-Dimensionals to give the arrangement depth.  The secret here is simple - have plenty of flowers stamped & cut to work with so that you can just keep adding to your bouquet until you're happy with the result.

I added a 2" x 5-1/4" piece of Whisper White cardstock to the back side of the center panel for the "inside" of the card.  This greeting from the Picture Perfect Birthday stamp set fits perfectly there!

About the matching box...

This started out as a plain white jewelry box.  I cut a piece of designer paper 1/4" smaller than the top of the box and adhered it with my tape runner.  Then I cut a piece of cardstock 2" x 11" and wrapped it around the box to create a belly band that slides on and off easily.

Tip for making a belly band:  Wrap the cardstock around the box loosely and pinch it with your fingers at the 4 corners.  Adhere the ends together on the bottom of the box with a strip of double-sided adhesive tape.  Slide the band off and sharpen the creases with your bone folder.
After that step, the process for building the bouquet is just the same.  And I still have flowers left over for another project!

Product List
On a sad note, the Whole Lot of Lovely DSP is on the retiring list and has sold out already.  But there are a lot more beautiful designer papers still available to purchase!  Click the Shop Now button at the top of the page to visit my online store and see them all.

Wish me luck with this Global Design Project challenge!

  4. What a beauty! I know what you mean about the intimidation factor of all the little bits - but then it gives you so many options.
