Christmas in July Card Swaps

Christmas in July - can you believe it?  In five months it will be December 25th again!  Five months can seem like a very long time or just around the corner, depending on your perspective.  The older I get, five months seems like it goes by in the blink of an eye.  Just a gentle reminder that if you plan to make your Christmas cards this year, now is a great time to get started!

Christmas in July was the theme for our team meeting this month so today I'm sharing our creations, starting with my card:

I created a watercolor background using Pool Party & Bermuda Bay inks.  The greeting is from the Snowflake Sentiments stamp set and embossed with White Stampin' Emboss Powder.  The die-cut snowflakes are part of the Seasonal Layers Thinlits and the card is matted on Bermuda Bay cardstock.

The snowflakes are quite delicate, so I used the Precision Base Plate with my Big Shot and cut them from Thick Whisper White to give them a little more body.

The fun thing about watercolor backgrounds is that no two ever look alike!  I use a Stampin' Spritzer to mist my watercolor paper and an Aqua Painter to add the ink.  The key to watercolor is water & more water - too much is better than not enough.  I love the Aqua Painters for this because I can squeeze more water onto the paper along with the ink as I work.

Did you know?

The embossing buddy is essential for embossing over an inked image like this watercolor background.  Just wipe it completely over the background before stamping with Versamark and your embossing powder will stick to the Versamark and no place else!

Here are some more ideas to get you started on this year's Christmas cards!

This card was created by Vicki Shaffer - isn't it adorable?  She used the Swirly Scribbles Thinlits & Cookie Cutter Christmas.  The photo doesn't show it well, but the bow & nose are covered in sparkly Wink of Stella.

This is Laura Malanowski's card.  She used Seasonal Chums and layered Smoky Slate & Glimmer Paper on top of Cherry Cobbler Designer Paper.  Stunning!

Cindy Brown cleverly created this poinsettia card using the leaf from Rooted in Nature.  Her colors are Poppy Parade & Shaded Spruce.
