Sea of Textures for Global Design Project #GDP141

Good Monday Morning!

This week I have the privilege of being a Guest Designer for the Global Design Project Colour Challenge!  Real Red, Pumpkin Pie & Rich Razzleberry - these colors are HOT!

I used the brand-spankin' new Sea of Textures Bundle for my project.  As a lover of all things beachy, as soon as I saw this bundle it was at the top of my wish list!  In my mind this underwater scene calls for a watercolor background, and these colors are fantastic for blending together.

If you haven't tried making a watercolor background, you should give it a go!   Every one turns out different, and that's so much fun.  It's quick and easy, too.  The hardest part is having the patience to let it dry before you start adding other elements!

To recreate this card, you'll need watercolor paper, an Aquapainter and re-inkers for Real Red, Pumpkin Pie & Rich Razzleberry.  My watercolor paper is 3-3/4" x 5".  Using your largest Aquapainter, cover the paper in plain water by brushing it back & forth across the page.  I didn't go all the way to the edges; that's why my color doesn't go near the edge.  Don't be stingy with the water; more water will make the inks flow & blend together.  Your water should be almost puddling on the paper.

Squeeze out a drop of each color from your re-inkers onto a palette (a dinner plate works well).  Dip your Aquapainter into the first color and just touch it to the wet page - watch the colors flow!  If the colors aren't flowing as much as you would like, you can squeeze out a little more water from your Aquapainter to help them spread.  Repeat, adding more colors until you're satisfied.  If you have too much water in an area you can use a tissue to blot some up.

Let the background dry completely before you stamp on it.  An hour is usually long enough.  I like to let mine dry naturally, but you could speed up the process with your heat tool if you're in a time crunch.  Here I stamped some corals & sea grasses in Rich Razzleberry & Real Red.

Did you know?

Watercolor paper tends to curl after it dries.  Here's how to make it lie perfectly flat: Using a Stampin' Spritzer, spray a very light mist of water on it.  Place on a flat surface and weight it down evenly with a heavy book until it dries.  I learned this trick from my friend, artist Margot Snow.

The textured die-cut elements with this set are gorgeous.  I die-cut the sand dollars from Shimmery White just because I like the way it looks against the watercolor paper.

"You're one of a kind" is included in the Sea of Textures stamp set, although the shape around it comes from the Thoughtful Banners stamp set.  The banner is embossed in white on a scrap of Rich Razzleberry cardstock and fussy-cut.  Did you notice the fishing net stamped on the card base?  Just another one of the great images in this set.

Here's the inside...I like the softer look of Very Vanilla cardstock against the Rich Razzleberry.  I used the same 3 colors on the inside...Real Red, Pumpkin Pie & Rich Razzleberry.

Because watercolor paper is stiffer & heavier than cardstock, I adhered it to the card base with Tear & Tape adhesive.  The other die-cut elements are adhered with Liquid Multipurpose Glue, with the exception of the octopus and the small sand dollar, which are raised up with Mini Stampin' Dimensionals.

You'll be seeing a lot more projects from me using this set.  Thanks for stopping by today!
