Bringing Home the Tree - Fun Embossing Folder Tutorial

This card reminds me of when we used to sell Christmas trees at our farm.  Most of the people who came to cut a tree tied it to the roof of their minivan, but still...

This card is an updated version of one that I have shared before.  I think I like this one better!  You can see the original card here.  The background for this card is created with the Woodland Embossing Folder and a stamp set called Lovely as a Tree.

The greeting and the old-fashioned truck are part of a new set called Farmhouse Christmas.  There are matching framelits to cut out the truck and the snowbank - no fussy cutting here!  I used some Dazzling Diamonds glitter on the birch trees - it sparkles like sunshine on fresh snow.  Photos cannot do it justice!  The truck is adhered with mini-dimensionals, making it look like it's driving right out of the forest :)

Here are the directions for creating this background:

Load a sponge brayer lightly with Smoky Slate ink and roll it over the inside of the Woodland Embossing folder until you can see a light gray shadow.  Be sure you are inking the front side of the folder - the side with the word "Sizzix" on it.

Ink the evergreen stamp in Basic Gray and stamp it in the middle of the folder.  Without re-inking, stamp it once more to the left or right of the first tree.  Re-ink the stamp and repeat. Re-ink a third time and stamp one more tree.  Each tree should be a little higher or lower than the one next to it.  Stamping twice before re-inking & varying the heights of the trees gives the illusion of depth.

Place a piece of 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" Whisper White cardstock carefully inside the folder and close it.  Run it through the Big Shot as you normally would.

Trim the cardstock to 4" x 5-1/4" after embossing it so that the edges will be nice & straight.  I used a fine-tip glue pen purchased from my local craft store to run a glue line along the tops of the horizontal branches and down the right side of each birch tree.   Then I sprinkled Dazzling Diamonds glitter over the entire card & tapped off the excess.

For the snowbank, I used a piece of Thick Whisper White cardstock 1" x 5-1/4" and die-cut the shape using the die included in the Farmhouse Christmas bundle.  "Happy Christmas Wishes" is stamped in Real Red.  The truck was colored with my Stampin' Blends.

The red truck is so trendy this year.  Just this week, I've seen this image on pillows, wall art & a cookie jar - so cute!

I like the inside as well as the outside.  I used my Stamparatus to stamp the greeting in 2 steps using Real Red & Tuxedo Black.

Roundup of Favorites

Hello!

Recently someone asked me what my all-time favorite card project was.  It was a great question that got me thinking back to all the different projects I've done over the years!  After some thought I came up with a list of six favorites that I thought I'd share with you.  Clicking on the photo will take you back to the original post to learn more.

Here they are (in no particular order):

My Favorite Christmas Card

This one uses a great technique with the Woodland Embossing Folder - it's quick, easy and sparkly (you know I love glitter)!

My Favorite Thank You Card

I love the soft colors on this one, and the woodgrain DSP pulls it all together.

My Favorite Going Away Card

Once again, these colors wow me.  Plus it has Copper embossing.  I love anything with Copper Embossing.  :)

My Favorite Birthday Card

I love the fold on this one, plus the matching gift box.  And it was a Global Design Project Challenge winner to boot!

My Favorite Watercolor Card

This one has a great watercolor background made by stamping on an acrylic block.  And of course, the colors are so vibrant!

My Favorite New Home Card

There's a lot that I like about this one:  Eclipse technique, larger sized card, sponging technique, color, color, color!  I'm a beach girl at heart, so this card makes me happy.

So there you have it, my all-time faves.  Looking at them all together, I realize they there's a common theme - I love color!  Stampin' Up's color palette is always fresh & on-trend with coordinating inks, cardstock & embellishments.  It's one of the reasons I became a demonstrator three years ago.  When I joined the Stampin' Up family in June of 2015, there was a signing bonus of 2 free stamp sets.  Which was great, but three years later I can't even remember which sets I chose and I'm pretty sure I'm not using them very much anymore.  Which brings me to tell you about the current joining offer -

Ten Free Ink Pads!

Now, that's an awesome bonus!  You'll use these ink pads over & over for years.  I can say without a doubt this is the best joining offer I've seen since I began demonstrating our products.  Here are the five color families - choose one of the five as your bonus when you purchase the Starter Kit for $99 with Free Shipping.  The Starter Kit contains $125 of products that you choose!

If you've ever thought about joining the Stampin' Up family of demonstrators, this is the offer you've been waiting for.  Enjoy savings of 20%-25% on every order from now until at least January 31, 2019!  There's no risk, no pressure & no penalty to drop!

Embossing Folder Technique - Quick & Easy Christmas Card!

Hi Friends,

Today I'm sharing a technique that's been around for a while but never gets old.  My friend Lani showed me a gorgeous card she made using the Woodland Embossing Folder and I just had to give it a go!  Here's my version:

I love the way this turned out and it's so much simpler to make than it looks.  Follow along while I explain - these are the basic supplies you'll need:

You will be working on the inside of the front of the embossing folder.  The front is the side with "Sizzix" printed on it.  Open the folder and using a sponge brayer and Smoky Slate, roll the ink onto the folder until you can see a pale gray shadow.

Next, using the evergreen stamp from Lovely as a Tree, stamp directly on the embossing folder in Basic Gray ink.  Start with the first tree in the middle, move to either side of that tree and stamp again without re-inking your stamp.  Repeat until you have 5 trees stamped across the folder.  Be sure to move the stamp up or down each time - this will give the illusion that some of the trees are further in the background.

Cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" and position it on the un-inked side of the folder.  When you have it straight (left & right edges parallel to the edge of the folder), carefully close the embossing folder.

Being careful not to let the cardstock slip inside of the folder, run it through the Big Shot as you normally would.

Ta-da!  How cool is that?

To finish the card, I trimmed my embossed piece to 4" x 5-1/4" and added Dazzling Diamonds glitter to one side of each tree trunk and on each horizontal branch.  I used a Zig Glue Pen for this step.  The 2 birds are from the Thoughtful Branches Bundle, which has been retired (sad, I know!).

The sentiment comes from the Holly Berry Happiness stamp set.  I used Real Red for this and the birds.  The ovals are cut with the Layering Ovals dies.  The larger oval is cut from Basic Gray.

The card base is Basic Gray.  The inside sentiment is also from the Holly Berry Happiness stamp set and I added another Lovely as a Tree evergreen and two more birds for a pop of color.

I hope you're inspired to try this technique for yourself!  The supplies you'll need are listed below - click on any of them to go directly to my website to purchase them.  Sadly the die-cuts for the birds are no longer available, but your local craft store should have some pre-made embellishments that would add a pop of color to your card!
