Using Stitched Rectangle Dies to Make a Photo Frame

Welcome to my blog!

I have an easy 3-D project to show you today - a magnetic photo frame to hold 4" x 6" prints on your fridge or file cabinet.

This frame would be a great gift, craft show item or class project.  The secret is the Stitched Rectangle Dies!  They make it super simple.  Here are the steps to make your own photo frames -

The base of the frame is a 5" x 7" adhesive magnetic sheet purchased from Amazon.  These are the same magnet sheets I use for die storage.

The first step is to cut a piece of designer paper to 5" x 7".  Choose a coordinating cardstock color for the mat and cut it to 5" x 7" also.

Next, take the designer paper and using the largest Stitched Rectangle Die, cut the center out.

Take your Designer Paper and center it on top of the 5" x 7" piece of cardstock.  Using the next smaller size rectangle, cut the center of the mat.

Now you're ready to prepare the magnet sheet & assemble your frame.

Remove the cardstock and set aside.  Place the Designer Paper on top of the 5" x 7" magnet sheet.  The side with the removable paper should be facing up.

Use a sharp pencil to lightly trace a line around the bottom and both sides of the frame.

Set the designer paper aside.  Use a pencil and ruler to darken the lines and extend them to the top of the magnet sheet.

Using very light pressure and a sharp craft knife, score the paper backing.  Be careful with this step, you just want to cut through the paper and not the magnet!

Peel away the paper backing to expose the adhesive on the sides and bottom of the magnet sheet.  Leave the center intact - this is where your photo will sit.

Place the cardstock mat on the magnet sheet and press firmly.  Using liquid glue, attach the Designer Paper frame on top.

Add embellishments & slip your photo in the top.  I had to trim about 1/8" from each side of my photo to make it slide easily in the frame.  The sailboat & shape for the caption are from the Sailing Home Bundle.  I added a 1-3/4" circle behind the stitched shape.

Here's the finished frame with my favorite photo 💗💗💗

This is a fun little project that you can customize for your photo AND another great way to use your Designer Papers!  The only thing that is a must is the Stitched Rectangle Dies - they are so perfect for framing photos.
