Bundle of Love

Hi friends,

Today's share was created out of necessity.  I was invited to a baby shower and I don't have any "baby" stamp sets, so I needed to get creative and think out of the box!  I really like the way it turned out and I hope you do, too.

This card was really fun to make.  I used Whisper White and Mint Macaron cardstocks.  Mint Macaron is such a lovely, soft color for this card...I'm going to miss it when it retires as the end of May!

The decorations at the baby shower were teal and coral - that's Bermuda Bay & Calypso Coral in Stampin' Up language!  I really liked that color combination and it inspired a second card.  In addition to the Bermuda Bay and Calypso Coral, I added So Saffron and Peekaboo Peach.  

Here are the directions for the original card.  Have fun changing up the colors to fit your needs!
The base is cut from Thick Whisper White.  The Mint Macaron mat is cut 4" x 5-1/4".  The layer on top of that is regular weight Whisper White, 3-3/4" x 5", embossed with the Falling Petals Embossing Folder.  "Bundle of" and "is on its way" are from the Sunshine Sayings stamp set, stamped on a 1/2" wide strip of Whisper White using Mint Macaron ink.

Now for the fun part!  I started with a 3" square piece of regular weight Whisper White.  Using Mint Macaron, Pink Pirouette, Marina Mist & So Saffron, I sponged each color onto the cardstock using Sponge Daubers until I was happy with depth of the colors.  It looks a little messy while you're sponging, but the magic happens after it's die-cut.  And no two are ever exactly alike!

The heart shape and "love" are both part of the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits.

Sadly, the Falling Petals Embossing Folder and everything Mint Macaron will no longer be available after May 31 (or while supplies last).  Although Sunshine Sayings and the matching Sunshine Wishes Thinlits will be available in the next catalog, the special bundle pricing (save 10%) will not, so now is the best time to purchase them!  I hope you'll give this card a try, it's easy and a lot of fun to create!

Falling in Love with Watercolor Wings - Part II

Hi Friends,

Here is the second half of my project to go along with the card I posted on Thursday.  A birthday gift needs beautiful packaging to match the beautiful card, right?  This is what I made to go along with my Watercolor Wings birthday card:

I love making these boxes.  Making a square box is simple!  Decide what size you need for your box - mine was 3-1/2" square.  I wanted the sides to be 1-1/2" tall, so I cut my Very Vanilla cardstock into a 6-1/2" square (3-1/2" + 1-1/2"+1-1/2").  Before you score, trim just a smidge (about 1/16" inch) off of two adjoining sides.  This makes the bottom of the box just ever so slightly smaller than the lid, for a good fit.  Score all 4 sides at 1-1/2" and make a single cut on each corner to make the flap to fold inside. Secure each flap to the inside of the box using Fast Fuse or Tear & Tape Adhesive.  These are the best adhesives for any sort of 3-D project like this.  

For the box lid, I like to make the sides shorter so you can see both the bottom and the lid when the box is assembled.  For this box I made the sides of the lid 1" tall, so my Sweet Sugarplum cardstock was cut at 5-1/2" square (3-1/2" + 1" + 1").  Score all 4 sides at 1" and trim the flaps the same as the box bottom.   Decorate the lid before you assemble it!  I used some leftover strips of Falling in Love Designer Series Paper to match my birthday card. 

 On the top of the lid, I adhered a lace doily.  On top of that I added a small Very Vanilla banner stamped with "Just for you" in Sweet Sugarplum and flagged on both ends using the Triple Banner Punch.  I added a Sweet Sugarplum enamel heart shape to the banner.  The butterfly is from the Watercolor Wings stamp set, stamped with Sweet Sugarplum, Blushing Bride & Sahara Sand inks. I added the gold sequin trim last.

My box and card were tucked inside this matching gift bag.  I took a plain bag from the craft supply store and decorated it to match the box, with the addition of 2 extra butterflies cut with the Bold Butterfly Framelits using some Sweet Sugarplum Glimmer Paper left over from Sale-a-Bration.

There it is!  Quick and easy, and sure to be appreciated by anyone receiving it.

Falling in Love with Watercolor Wings

Hey, friends!

I've been on a roll this week with my crafting!  It's to the point where my poor husband suggested that if he put his dirty laundry in an empty Stampin' Up box maybe I'd notice it.  LOL!  I guess that tells you something!

I'm on a mission to use more of my designer papers in my projects and not be a paper hoarder.  This paper is out of the Falling in Love Designer Series.  I loved the soft colors and it occurred to me that it would be perfect to pair with Watercolor Wings!

I made multiples of these with only subtle changes because I liked the design so well.  The colors in the DSP are Sweet Sugarplum, Blushing Bride, Sahara Sand, Soft Sky and Very Vanilla.  This one uses Sweet Sugarplum cardstock for the base.  This is a fancy fold - let me show you how it's done:

Start with a piece of cardstock 5-1/2" x 11".  Score the long side at 1-1/4", 4", & 6-3/4".  You will need three pieces of designer paper, 1" x 5-1/4", 2-1/2" x 5-1/4" & 4" x 5-1/4".  You will also need one piece of Very Vanilla cardstock cut 2-1/2" x 5-1/4" for the greeting panel.  Stamp your greeting panel however you like before attaching it to the card base.  Here I used Sweet Sugarplum, Blushing Bride and Sahara sand inks.  The butterfly and the dots are part of the Watercolor Wings stamp set and the words are from Endless Birthday Wishes.  This is a great set to have in your collection - there are tons of words and phrases that you can mix & match to create just the right birthday greeting!

Attach the two larges pieces of designer paper and the greeting as shown here before folding.  Then flip the card over and attach the last piece of DSP on the opposite side:

Once you have attached the 3 pieces of designer paper and the greeting panel, fold into an "M" shape on the scorelines.

The butterfly embellishment is a 3-step stamp.  Stamping the darkest images on the cardstock first helps you line up the subsequent images easier.  I stamped (1) the edges of the wings in Sweet Sugarplum; (2) the solid image in Blushing Bride, stamped off once; and (3) the center of the wings in Blushing Bride, full strength.  The body and "just for you" are stamped in Sahara Sand.  The embellishment is die-cut with the Layering Squares Framelits.  The matching scalloped framelit is die-cut from Sweet Sugarplum Glimmer Paper (a Sale-a-Bration free item).  TIP:  The best adhesive for attaching anything to Glimmer Paper is Mini Glue Dots.  A brush of Clear Wink of Stella on the edges of the wings adds extra glimmer!

On this one I used Sweet Sugarplum cardstock for the scalloped square and added Basic Rhinestone Gems to the wings for glimmer.

This is such a pretty fold both open and closed.  It makes a beautiful card for your recipient to display.

The Watercolor Wings butterfly looks beautiful on the outside of your envelopes, too.  You know it's something special inside when you pull this out of the mailbox!
